Meta Personal Profile Recovery Steps
First take a deep breath….I understand the stress and frustation this causes a person and business.
Now the bad news is from a support level if your personal profile has been disabled, hacked/compromised its not possible for agencies to be able to support you. Due to privacy reasons.
As an agency in the past I have tried many times to get personal profiles returned twice I have had success. One took 2years to get back, one day the client just heard from Meta and the account was reinstated out of the blue. Due to this I was able to get the contact within Meta and he supported me on the 2nd case. Unfortunately he no longer works there and that contact is lost.
Since then Meta consistently tells me the person ie: you have to follow these steps and its your best way forward.
I wish I could support you more here but I would just be wasting your time and money for me to work on the case.
Ways your account possibly got compromised.
From my experience these are ways they get to your account.
Emails & SMS – Any email from Facebook, you receive an email asking to reset the password, you do this… they get in. They say you have been disabled, you owe money, approve this partner, or your music has copyright and you need to approve… again makes you log in, enter password and 2FA they get in. They quickly enter change the password and 2FA your locked out. All happens very quick and usually on public holidays, nights when your not really thinking hard.
Most recent case has been setting up a Meta Horizon account and you don’t have access nor can you remove from the accounts centre.
What can you do!
Step 1 — Report via the Account Recovery Hub (Most Important)
Meta has an Account Recovery & Support Hub specifically for compromised accounts.
Go to facebook.com/hacked complete the steps
Step 2 — Report via the Accounts Centre from a Connected Account
Go to your Instagram profile you have access to Help → Report a Problem, then explain that your account is compromised.
On Facebook you can do the same: Settings → Help & Support → Report a Problem.
Step 3 — Contact Meta Support Directly
Go to: https://www.meta.com/help/contact/ and select:
- “I can’t access this email or phone number” during account recovery
- Describe it as an unauthorized account linked to Accounts Centre
Email: escalations@cases.meta.com
What to include in your email:
- Your full name (as shown on your account) if you know the url for your profile.
- The email address or phone number linked to your Facebook
- A short explanation of what happened and when – stick to the facts, don’t be emotional and waffle on.
- Screenshots of any error messages you’ve received
- Mention if you manage any business pages, ads, or community groups
Meta receives thousands of messages daily, so the more concise and helpful your email, the better your chances of a reply.
Important Note on Timeline
Be aware that Meta’s support on these cases can be very slow. Keep screenshots and records of everything — all reports filed, dates, and any reference numbers Meta gives you. If Meta support is unresponsive, you can also escalate via the Australian eSafety Commissioner (esafety.gov.au) as a last resort.
Lodge via Ombudson Australia a formal dispute. I have heard of accounts being reinstated via here.
I realise you probably have completed these steps, if I find out more ways you can reach support I will update via here.
Don’t go and try to create a new account. If you do highly likely it will get disabled pretty quick.
